"You see a forest as a collection of trees; We see it as a collection of breaths. You see a mountain as a barrier; We see it as a scab. Do not fear the shifting earth, for the surgeon must move the flesh to mend the bone."
Lore & Worship
The Omnisporangium is not a deity that sits upon a throne of gold or clouds; it is the throne, the floor, and the foundations of the world itself. Known to the Sub-Terran Accord as "The Great Weaver" and to the Aether-Weaver Goblins as "The Deep Mother," this CR 30 entity is a sentient, planet-spanning fungal colony. It acts as the biological nervous system of Aethervale, pulsing with rhythmic bioluminescence that matches the world's core rotation.
Creation myths suggest that when Aethervale was a cooling hunk of molten rock, the Omnisporangium arrived as a single spore on a comet of pure Aether. It burrowed deep, weaving its hyphae into the cooling crust to act as a heat sink and magical stabilizer. Today, it regulates the Aether Crystals—magical batteries that power everything from the Steam Wrights' engines to elven high magic. Worship is rarely performed in cathedrals; instead, devotees venture into the "Deep-Strands," offering "sacrifices" of necrotic energy or polluted soil for the Mycelium to break down and purify into Blue Bile.
Sight, Sound, and Smell
The air is heavy with the scent of damp loam, ozone, and a faint, sweet almond musk. A low-frequency hum, like the vibration of a massive copper bell, resonates through the soles of one's boots. Everywhere, the walls pulse with a soft, rhythmic blue light, as if the very stone were breathing through a veil of shimmering gossamer threads.
Ideals & Flaws
- Ideal: Equilibrium. The survival of the planetary organism outweighs the comfort of any single species or civilization.
- Flaw: Alien Perspective. Its sense of time is so vast and its mind so interconnected that it often fails to recognize the value of individual mortal lives, viewing their deaths as mere "cellular turnover."
Rumors & Whispers
- True: The so-called "Sighing Sickness" is not a terminal plague but a forced evolutionary leap; those infected become "Whisper-Hulks" capable of sensing tectonic shifts before they happen.
- False: The Omnisporangium is secretly a dormant parasite from the Far Realm that will eventually consume the planet's core and launch itself back into the stars, leaving Aethervale a hollow husk.
Markings
Scratched into the entrance of many Aether-wells or Deep-Strand tunnels is a symbol of three interlocking spirals surrounding a central eye.
- Translation: "The Marrow is Watching; Tread Lightly, Bleed Quietly." (A warning used by Sub-Terran engineers to remind workers that the Mycelium reacts to spilled blood and loud vibrations).
The Holy Commandment
"Thou shalt not puncture the Veins of the Earth for greed, nor allow the Aether to stagnate; for that which is taken must be returned, and that which is broken must be fed to the Deep." (Followers are commanded to sabotage unsustainable mining operations and ensure that magical waste is properly processed by the Mycelium.)
Divine Relics
The Crown of the Fungal King
Lore & Origin: Forged from the calcified heart-stalk of an ancient Spore-Goliath and dipped in liquified Aether, this crown was first worn by the legendary goblin prophet Glokk. It was created to allow a mortal mind to survive direct communion with the Omnisporangium without shattering.
- Mechanics: Grants the wearer telepathy (1-mile range), immunity to the "Sighing Sickness," and the ability to cast Commune with Nature at will while underground.
The Bile-Siphon Staff
Lore & Origin: A copper-reinforced staff tipped with a hollowed Aether crystal, used by the Grand Warren-Masters of the Sub-Terran Accord. It is designed to safely channel Blue Bile from the Mycelium's vents to cool overheating clockwork machinery.
- Mechanics: Functions as a Staff of Power. Additionally, the wielder can expend 1 charge to create a 20-foot pool of Blue Bile (Acid/Magical damage) or use it to stabilize a Wild Magic surge.
Ecology & Tactics (The Avatar of the Deep)
Ecology
The Omnisporangium consumes raw arcane radiation and necrotic rot, transmuting them into Aether and Blue Bile. It exists in a symbiotic relationship with Lithovore Behemoths and Aether-Weaver Goblins, who act as its mobile immune cells. It is the only entity capable of suppressing the World-Fire by absorbing the excess thermal and magical energy of the slumbering "Sleeping Dragons."
Tactics
As a CR 30 entity, the Omnisporangium does not "fight" in a traditional sense; the battlefield itself becomes the opponent.
- Tectonic Shifts: As a legendary action, it can reshape the terrain, creating walls of stone or opening 60-foot deep chasms.
- Spore Inhalation: Creatures within 120 feet must save against a high DC Constitution save or be Charmed/Incapacitated as their nervous systems are temporarily hijacked by the network.
- Summon Immune System: It can instantly manifest 1d4 Spore-Goliaths (CR 10) or a Bile-Mutated Troll to protect its central cortex.
- Aether Venting: It can trigger a localized Wild Magic surge that affects all spells cast within its presence, potentially turning a fireball into a burst of healing or a gravity collapse.
