Corrupting The Heart Of The Mountain

The Forbidden Strike at the Great Anvil
Background & Objective
A cell of the Void Gazers has infiltrated the Forge-District of Dal-Dur. Their goal: the "Forbidden Strike"—striking the Great Anvil with a hammer forged of Void-Iron. This act is prophesied to shatter the heart of the mountain and cause the floating continent to plummet. The Great Anvil's orange glow is already turning a sickly purple. The party must storm the forge and stop the ritual before the final blow is struck.
Key NPCs & Motivations
- Harbinger Malakor: A former Master-Smith turned cultist. He blames the High King for the loss of his family in a mining accident and wants to see the entire mountain fall.
- Lorekeeper Elara: An aging dwarf who knows the "Rime-Runes" needed to stabilize the Anvil. She is trapped in the observation gallery and needs rescue.
The Setting: The Heart-Forge
- The Cooling Vents: A maze of steam pipes and narrow walkways that provide a stealthy but dangerous path to the central chamber.
- The Great Anvil Floor: A massive circular arena dominated by the glowing anvil, now surrounded by pulsing Void-Iron spikes.
- The Reality-Flux Zones: Areas around the anvil where gravity is unstable and the floor occasionally turns to liquid stone.
Encounters & Branching Paths
- The Steam-Choked Ascent (Stealth/Challenge): Moving through the cooling vents without being scalded by "Steam-Bursts" or spotted by Void Gazer sentries.
- The Acolyte Suppression (Combat): Fighting through waves of cultists who are channeling energy into the Harbinger's hammer.
- The Stabilizing Ritual (Social/Skills): Rescuing Elara and protecting her while she performs the Rime-Rune ritual to keep the anvil from cracking.
- The Harbinger's Last Stand (Combat): A final showdown with Malakor. Every strike of his hammer creates localized gravity distortions or bursts of purple fire.
Narrative Outcomes & Loot
- Success: The Great Anvil is purified. The orange glow returns, and the mountain is saved. The party is granted the title "Saviors of the Forge."
- Failure: The Anvil cracks. Dal-Dur begins to tilt and lose altitude, triggering a mass evacuation and a global crisis as the continent threatens to fall.
- Loot: Maul of the First King (if the Void-Iron hammer is purified), Stone-Seal of the High King (grants authority in Dal-Dur), and a Gem of Brightness (recharged by the Great Anvil's heat).
