The Aether-Weaver Goblins

The Aether-Weaver Goblins

Faction: The Aether-Weaver Goblins

Alignment & Influence: Alignment: Lawful Neutral. Influence: Primary subterranean power within the Deep-Strands. They hold a monopoly over refined Blue Bile and high-purity Aether crystals, making them essential—and dangerous—trade partners for both the Sub-Terran Accord and the surface-dwelling Steam Wrights Consortium.

Goals & Philosophy

The Aether-Weaver Goblins view themselves as the "Planetary Apothecaries." Guided by the telepathic echoes of the Omnisporangium, they believe their divine mandate is to prune the world’s magical leylines and manage the waste products of the planet’s metabolism. To them, the industrial extraction of Aether by surface civilizations is not just theft; it is a parasitic infection.

They seek to stabilize the Aether & Blue Bile Cycle, ensuring that the "blood" of the world flows without interruption. They philosophy is one of radical stewardship: they will mend a mountain with the same clinical detachment with which they might collapse a city’s foundation if its engines are "clogging the veins" of the earth.

Public Face vs. Secret Agenda

Public Face: To the merchants of Steamfort and the miners of Dal-Dur, the Aether-Weaver Goblins are eccentric but brilliant bio-engineers. They present themselves as a guild of "Waste-Management Specialists" who provide the stable Blue Bile needed to cool high-output steam engines and forge durable Aether-glass.

Secret Agenda: Led by Grand Shaman Glokk, the faction is actively map-marking the Obsidian Scale’s excavation sites. While they trade with the surface, they are secretly "seeding" industrial zones with dormant spores. When the Omnisporangium signals a high-priority "infection," these spores will bloom into Spore-Goliaths to dismantle the machinery from within, returning the stolen Aether to the soil.

Resources & Assets

  • The Bile-Refinery Grotto: A massive subterranean complex where raw Blue Bile is distilled into a magically inert, high-efficiency coolant.
  • Mycelial Threading: A secret technique of "weaving" fungal fibers with copper wiring to create semi-organic, sentient clockwork.
  • The Nursery Nodes: Heavily guarded chambers where Aether Crystals are "grown" rather than mined, ensuring the planetary crust remains intact.

Reputation & Ranks

Players who aid the Goblins in "healing" the earth gain standing within their hierarchy.

  1. Spore-Seeker (Rank 1): Recognized as a friend of the forest and depth; granted safe passage through Goblin-held tunnels.
  2. Bile-Smith (Rank 2): Entrusted with the secrets of Blue Bile. Players gain access to Bile-Infused weapon upgrades.
  3. Thread-Warden (Rank 3): Assigned to protect a specific Nursery Node. They are taught the basics of Mycelial Threading (Advantage on Nature checks regarding the Omnisporangium).
  4. Aether-Prophet (Rank 4): A direct advisor to Grand Shaman Glokk, capable of hearing the low-frequency hum of the world-heart.

Key Figures

Grand Shaman Glokk

"The Great Root does not speak in words, but in the hum of the crystal and the heat of the rot. We are merely the vibration."

  • Ideals: Balance. Everything taken from the earth must be returned in equal measure.
  • Flaws: Fanaticism. He views individual mortal lives as "temporary cellular matter" compared to the eternal Omnisporangium.

Venda 'Sporelung'

"One man’s toxic waste is a goblin’s high-pressure fuel. Keep your lungs clear, dearie, the Blue Bile is biting today!"

  • Ideals: Resourcefulness. Nothing should go to waste, not even a corpse or a broken gear.
  • Flaws: Greed. Her love for "shiny" Aether-dust sometimes outweighs her loyalty to the Shaman.

Locations: The Bile-Refinery Grotto

Sight, Sound, and Smell

The air is a shimmering haze of bioluminescent blue vapor that tastes of copper and ozone. The rhythmic, hissing thrum of pneumatic bellows echoes off the ancient stone walls, synchronized perfectly with the distant, low-frequency heartbeat of the world. Great copper vats bubble with thick, glowing indigo fluid, tended by goblins wearing glass-fronted respirators and brass-stitched leather.

Rumors & Whispers

  • True: Grand Shaman Glokk’s embedded crystal allows him to see visions of the World-Fire before it happens, guiding the goblins to prevent it.
  • False: The Goblins are secretly breeding a "Mega-Spore" to petrify the entire surface world into a single fungal forest.

Markings

A spiral of three dots scratched into a tunnel entrance.

  • Translation: "The Root-pulse is strong here; do not spill blood, or the earth will drink you."

Monster: Spore-Goliath

Huge plant (fungus), unaligned

Tactics

The Spore-Goliath acts as a biological siege engine. In combat, it focuses on the most "unnatural" targets first—constructs, armored fighters, or those wielding high-magic items. It uses its Aetheric Slam to disrupt spellcasting and releases Bile-Spore Clouds to corrode armor. It rarely kills out of malice, instead attempting to grapple and "reclaim" enemies by pulling them into the mycelial floor.

Ecology

Created by the Aether-Weaver Goblins from the corpses of fallen giants and dense fungal colonies, these creatures serve as the immune system’s white blood cells. They are dormant until the Omnisporangium senses a "wound" (like a deep-bore mine), at which point they are deployed to seal the breach.

Item: The Bile-Ender Blade

Weapon (any sword), rare (requires attunement)

Lore & Origin

Forced in the high-pressure vents where the Aether-currents meet the fungal vents of the Rusted Deep. These blades were originally tools for "cauterizing" void-ruptures in the planetary crust. The blade’s edge is not steel, but a sliver of Aether-glass that drips a constant, caustic coating of refined Blue Bile.

Mechanics

You gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon. On a hit, the target takes an extra 1d6 acid damage. If the target is a Construct or an Undead, it takes an extra 2d6 acid damage instead, as the Blue Bile seeks to break down "stagnant" or "artificial" energy.
