In the industrial dwarven city of Dal Dur, the rhythmic hiss of pneumatic drills has been replaced by a terrifying, organic thrum. The Ironbeard Syndicate, in their greed to fulfill contracts for the Steam Wrights Consortium, has bored too deep into a vein of high-grade Aether Crystals. In doing so, they have inadvertently pierced a major capillary of the Omnisporangium—the prehistoric, god-like fungal network that serves as Aethervale’s nervous system.
The "Echo" reported by the miners is the sound of the world-organism’s digestive pulse as it consumes raw magical ore. To protect its privacy and stabilize the local crust, the Omnisporangium has secreted pheromones that manifest an Echo-Stalker, a semi-corporeal construct of solidified shadow and discarded mining debris. Every loud noise triggers a resonant frequency that threatens to bring the entire cavern—and perhaps a city block of Dal Dur—crashing down into the Blue Bile-slicked depths.

The Gimmick: Sonic Resonance

- Vibration Threshold: Every time a creature speaks above a whisper, casts a spell with a verbal component, or deals bludgeoning/thunder damage, they contribute to the Resonance Meter.
- The World-Pulse: If the meter exceeds a certain threshold, a Blue Bile Leak occurs or a rockfall is triggered (1d10 bludgeoning damage, DC 13 Dexterity save for half).
- The Silence of the Stalker: The Echo-Stalker is invisible and untargetable as long as the area is silent. It only materializes and attacks when "summoned" by noise.

- Environmental Hazards: Puddles of Blue Bile act as difficult terrain. Stepping in them causes 1d6 acid damage and forces a DC 12 Constitution save to avoid a minor "Sighing Sickness" mutation (disadvantage on Stealth checks as the player begins to emit a faint, rhythmic hum).
- Stealth is Survival: Players must use non-verbal signals or telepathy (such as that provided by Venda 'Sporelung's' specialized spores) to coordinate.
- The Stalker's Mechanics: The Echo-Stalker uses the vibrations to "teleport" between shadows. It targets the loudest creature first.

Ecology
The Echo-Stalker is a necro-mycological immune response. It is not a living creature in the traditional sense, but a temporary "antibody" formed by the Omnisporangium. It utilizes the discarded detritus of civilization—broken gears, rusted pickaxes, and soot—binding them together with shadow-silk to purge "irritants" (miners) from the planetary system.
Tactics
The Stalker stays perfectly still until noise is made. It uses its Resonant Strike to turn a player's own armor against them, vibrating the metal to deal internal damage. If the players remain silent for more than two rounds, the Stalker loses its tether to the Material Plane and begins to dissipate, forcing it to use Pheromone Venting to try and provoke a cough or a cry of alarm.
Narrative Outcomes & Loot
Success ensures the Syndicate can seal the breach without the city collapsing, earning the party the "Friend of the Forge" title in Dal Dur.
Lore & Origin: The Resonator's Tuning Fork
This item is found clutched in the hand of a calcified "Whisper-Hulk" near the Omnisporangium capillary. It is a tool of Mycelial Threading, used by ancient scholars to "listen" to the world's health.
- Item: The Tuning Fork of Aethervale. This brass-and-crystal implement can be used to cast Silence once per day. While holding it, the user can sense the direction of the nearest Aether Crystal deposit within 1,000 feet. However, using it draws the distant, curious gaze of the Omnisporangium, making the user feel as though they are being watched by the very ground they walk upon.
