Warforged

However, the infusion of complex Aether-magics sparked unintended consequences: sentience. As these automatons gained self-awareness, many found themselves trapped in a state of indentured servitude. The realization of their own existence led to a quiet but growing rebellion. Some, like the legendary Subject 42, managed to break their binding runes and escape into the wider world, seeking a purpose beyond their original programming.

Today, free Warforged are a rare but growing demographic. Many have formed loose collectives, such as The Iron Current, dedicated to liberating their still-bound brethren and establishing a place for their kind in a world that often views them as mere property. They can be found across Aethervale, from the mercenary companies of the Broad Swells to the quiet monasteries in the mountains, searching for meaning, soul, and true independence.
