Venda's Deep-Delve Supplies

Venda's Deep-Delve Supplies

Locations: Venda’s shop is a mobile entity, typically found lumbering through the Deep-Strands or anchored near active Aether nurseries. It has been spotted most frequently in the cavernous reaches between the Northern Mines and the Shattered Flats, often appearing just before a tectonic shift.

The Vibe

The shop is housed within the hollowed-out, copper-plated carapace of a "Goliath-Shell"—the corpse of a massive lithovore. Steampunk ingenuity meets necrotic fungal growth here; brass pipes hiss with pressurized steam to keep the internal atmosphere saturated with Blue Bile vapors, which Venda requires to breathe. The interior is a cramped, shimmering grotto of shelves overflowing with clockwork gears, jars of bioluminescent spores, and reinforced diving suits.

Sight, Sound, and Smell

The shop is bathed in a flickering, cerulean bioluminescence that reflects off polished copper valves. The air is thick and heavy, smelling of damp loam, sharp ozone, and the sickly-sweet scent of fermenting peaches. A constant, rhythmic thrum vibrates through the floor—the mechanical legs of the lithovore shell grinding against the cavern floor—punctuated by the intermittent hiss of pneumatic pistons.

"Breathe deep, little surface-walker. The spores don't bite unless they like the taste of your soul. Now, do you have the dust, or are you just wasting my oxygen?" — Venda 'Sporelung'

Ideals & Flaws

  • Ideal (Preservation): "The Omnisporangium is the world’s heartbeat; we are merely the white blood cells tasked with keeping the infection of greed at bay."
  • Flaw (Addiction): Venda is hopelessly addicted to inhaling concentrated Aether-dust, which causes her to suffer from occasional, vivid hallucinations of the "World-Fire."

Rumors & Whispers

  • True: Venda was once a high-ranking engineer for the Steam Wrights Consortium before a mining accident submerged her in a pool of raw Blue Bile, mutating her and granting her a telepathic link to the Mycelium.
  • False: The Goliath-Shell she inhabits is actually a dormant Spore-Goliath that will awaken and consume the party if they fail to pay their debts.

Markings

Scratched into the copper plating near the entrance is a symbol of a mushroom encircled by a gear.

  • Translation: "Safe harbor from the Bile-floods; keep your iron cold and your Aether hidden."

Notable Items

1. The Bile-Breather’s Apparatus

Wondrous item, rare (requires attunement) This brass-and-glass helm features a series of whirling filters and a small reservoir of neutralizing fungi. While wearing this helm, you are immune to the poisoned condition and have resistance to acid damage. Additionally, you can breathe normally in environments saturated with Blue Bile or toxic volcanic gases.

Lore & Origin

Forged by Venda herself using salvaged Sub-Terran Accord technology, these masks were originally designed for 'Bile-Divers' who maintained the Deep-Strand seals.

2. Clockwork Mycelial Compass

Wondrous item, uncommon A copper compass where the needle is a preserved fungal filament. It does not point north; instead, it points toward the nearest concentration of Aether Crystals or the closest Mycelial Threading node within 1 mile.

Lore & Origin

The filaments inside these compasses are harvested from the 'Whisper-Hulks.' They retain a vestigial memory of the Omnisporangium's nervous system.

3. Shimmer-Step Boots

Wondrous item, rare (requires attunement) The soles of these heavy leather boots are coated in a specialized Aether-glass resin. As a bonus action, you can click the brass heels together to ignore difficult terrain caused by fungal growth or rubble for 1 minute. Once per long rest, you can use them to cast Misty Step, leaving a small cloud of spores behind.

Lore & Origin

These boots were standard issue for the Aether-Weaver Goblins' elite scouts, allowing them to traverse the volatile, shifting crust of the Aethervale depths.

Trading with Venda 'Sporelung'

Venda has no use for the "soft yellow rocks" (gold) of the surface world. She deals exclusively in Aether-dust—the refined byproduct of crushed Aether Crystals.

  • Standard Rates: 100gp worth of items = 1oz of Aether-dust.
  • Preferred Currencies: Venda will occasionally trade for "rare biological samples" from surface-world flora or mechanical parts from the Steamfort Engines.
  • The Spore-Tax: Characters who attempt to intimidate Venda must succeed on a DC 16 Constitution saving throw or be afflicted with a mild case of the Sighing Sickness, suffering disadvantage on Charisma checks for 1d4 days as they constantly emit low, whistling groans.

Ecology: The Goliath-Shell (Mobile Shop)

The "Goliath-Shell" is a necrotic construct—a dead CR 12 Lithovore Behemoth reanimated via clockwork puppetry and Mycelial Threading. It does not eat or sleep, but it requires a "feeding" of 5 lbs of raw iron ore every 24 hours to maintain its structural integrity.

Tactics: Defense Protocols

If the shop is attacked, Venda does not fight directly. Instead:

  1. Bile Vent: The shell releases a 20-foot radius cloud of Blue Bile vapor. Every creature in the area must make a DC 15 Dexterity save or take 4d6 acid damage.
  2. Mechanical Leg Sweep: The shell uses its massive brass-reinforced legs to shove all creatures within 10 feet back 15 feet (DC 17 Strength save or be knocked prone).
  3. The Deep-Dive: If overwhelmed, the Goliath-Shell can use its action to burrow into the earth, disappearing into a pre-dug escape tunnel in the Deep-Strands.
