The Void Gazers

The Void Gazers
The Void Gazers are a dangerous, decentralized cult operating in the shadows of Aethervale. While most fear the Mana Wastes and the horrific mutations they spawn, the Void Gazers believe the chaotic energy of the Wastes is the true, unbridled form of creation.
Beliefs and Motivations
The cult rejects the structured magic of Kigum and the mechanical rigidness of Steamfort. They believe that the Saints were not saviors, but jailers who bound the world in artificial laws. The "Void"—the swirling, corruptive magic of the Age of Ruin—is seen as an entity capable of granting ultimate freedom and power to those strong enough to harness it.
Their ultimate goal is to break the magical wards established after the Age of Ruin, plunging Aethervale back into a state of chaotic flux where the strongest and most magically attuned will rule.
Structure and Leadership
The cult operates in isolated cells, often unaware of each other to prevent exposure.
- The Whispering Eye: The rumored leader or ruling council of the Void Gazers. Their identities are unknown, but they possess terrifying reality-warping abilities.
- Harbingers: Cell leaders who coordinate local sabotage and recruitment. They often possess mutated, crystalline growths on their bodies, a sign of prolonged exposure to raw, corrupted Aether.
- Acolytes: The rank-and-file members, often drawn from the desperate, the magically ungifted who seek power, or scholars who delved too deeply into forbidden lore.
Activities
The Void Gazers actively sabotage Aether-refineries, weaken protective wards around settlements bordering the Mana Wastes, and smuggle corrupted Aether into major cities to sow chaos. They are heavily hunted by the Inquisition of Saint Valerius and the Arcane Guard of Kigum.
