Chronos-Clock

Chronos-Clock

Overview & Aesthetic

The Chronos-Clock is a gargantuan mechanical marvel buried in the deepest core of the Dal-Dur mountains. It is a room the size of a city, dominated by thousands of interlocking gold and brass gears, some of which are miles across. The "ticking" of the clock is so powerful it can be felt in the bones of anyone nearby. The air is dry and smells of ancient metal and ozone.

History & Lore

The Chronos-Clock was built during the Age of Ruin by a forgotten race of "Time-Weavers." It is believed to be the mechanism that synchronizes the flow of time across Aethervale. If the clock were to stop, time itself might freeze or fracture. The dwarves of Dal-Dur have kept its existence a secret for millennia, acting as silent guardians of the "Heart of Time."

Points of Interest

  • The Main Spring: A massive, glowing coil of pure Aether that provides the power for the entire mechanism.
  • The Pendulum Station: A swinging platform located in the upper shafts where the "Keepers of Time" reside.
  • The Gear-Labyrinth: A maze of moving platforms and rotating shafts that leads to the clock's central core.
  • The Temporal Rift: A small, stable tear in reality near the main spring where time moves at a different speed.

Local Factions & NPCs

  • The Keepers of Time: A group of immortal (or time-displaced) guardians who maintain the clock.
  • The Void Gazers: A cult that seeks to sabotage the clock to trigger a "Temporal Collapse."
  • "Spark": The loft AI, who seems to have a strange connection to the clock's logic-engines.

Environmental Hazards / Mechanics

  • Temporal Glitches: At the start of each combat round, roll a d20. On a 1, all creatures in the area are affected by a Slow spell. On a 20, they are affected by a Haste spell.
  • Crushing Gears: Falling into the machinery is instant death (or 20d10 bludgeoning damage if the character is extremely lucky).
  • Static Time: Spells that manipulate time (like Slow, Haste, or Time Stop) are 50% more effective but have a chance to trigger a Wild Magic Surge.
