The Crown City of Ardor

The Crown City of Ardor
Overview & Aesthetic
The Crown City of Ardor is the jewel of the Briar-Kin civilization and the largest settlement in The Shrouded Boughs. Built nearly five hundred feet above the sea within the sprawling branches of the Mother-Tree, Ardor is a marvel of organic architecture. The city consists of thousands of grass-woven spheres and hollowed-out branch chambers, all interconnected by a dizzying network of suspension bridges, rope-ladders, and polished bark-slides.
By day, Ardor is bathed in golden sunlight that filters through the dense upper canopy. By night, it glows with the soft, bioluminescent light of "Moon-Moss" that grows along the city's structural vines.
History & Lore
Ardor was founded during the Age of Discovery, when the first Muridae explorers reached the summit of the Mother-Tree and realized its branches were broad enough to support an entire nation. For generations, it has served as the political and economic heart of the canopy, standing as a testament to the Muridae's ability to conquer the heights. It has withstood countless gale-force storms and survived several major gull-raids, thanks to the vigilance of the Acorn Guard.
Points of Interest

- The Golden Hive: A specialized sector dedicated to the breeding and training of the giant iridescent beetles used by the Acorn Guard.
- Thorne’s Library: A hollowed branch containing thousands of carved bark-scrolls detailing the history of the Muridae and the secrets of the forest.
Local Factions & NPCs

Environmental Hazards / Mechanics
- High Altitudes: The thin air and constant movement of the branches can cause "Canopy Sickness" (DC 12 Constitution save or suffer one level of exhaustion).
- Slippery Bark: After rain, moving along the un-roped branches requires a DC 13 Acrobatics check to avoid slipping.
- Predatory Gulls: Ardor is a frequent target for giant gulls. Any character in an exposed area at night has a 10% chance of attracting a gull-scout.
