Alchemist Thorne

Alchemist Thorne is a methodical and highly respected scholar of natural sciences in The Crown City of Ardor. Residing in a cluttered, resin-walled laboratory within the Amber Caves behind The Resin-Falls, Thorne has dedicated his life to the study of the Mother-Tree’s magical sap. He is a relative of the more famous Elder Thorne, and while they share a deep love for the forest, the Alchemist’s interests are purely scientific rather than spiritual or historical.

Thorne is the city’s primary producer of medicinal potions, dyes, and specialized alchemical primers used in Muridae technology. He is a perfectionist who views every experiment as a step toward a better understanding of the forest’s "Chemical Language." He is highly valued by Grand Warden Hekka, as his alchemical fire and sleep-bombs are vital tools for the Acorn Guard.

He is a solitary mouse who rarely leaves his laboratory, preferring the constant, soothing "thrum" of the Resin-Falls to the noise of the city. He is always in need of rare ingredients from the Whispering Roots and the Deep-Dive Grotto, and he is willing to pay well for anyone brave enough to collect them.

Secret Motivation: Thorne is secretly working on a "Sap-Mutator"—a substance that could artificially accelerate the growth of iron-wood trees. He believes that the forest is currently growing too slowly to keep up with the increasing demand for resources, though he fears the Coven's reaction to his interference with the Mother-Tree's natural rhythm.

Adventure Hook: Thorne has discovered a new, highly volatile aether-isotope in a sample of "Black Sap" recovered from a localized aether-leak. He needs a group of adventurers to help him stabilize the isotope before it causes a catastrophic explosion in the Amber Caves.
