Properties

The Azure-Lace Symbiote is a shimmering, semi-translucent mesh of bioluminescent blue-green mycelium. When donned, the fungal filaments do not merely rest against the skin; they weave through the pores and fuse directly to the wearer's nervous system, pulsating in time with their heartbeat.

Living Raiment: While wearing the symbiote, your Armor Class becomes 13 + your Dexterity modifier. It does not count as armor for the purposes of features like Unarmored Movement.
Neural Network: You gain telepathic communication with any creature you can see within 60 feet. If the target is a goblin or a creature infected by Mycelia-Zul, the range increases to 120 feet, and you have advantage on Wisdom (Insight) checks made against them.
Filtered Vitality: You have immunity to the poisoned condition and resistance to poison damage.
Spore Pulse: As an action, you can release a cloud of concentrated azure spores in a 10-foot radius. Each creature in the area must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or be poisoned for 1 minute. While poisoned in this way, the creature is charmed by you as it experiences a euphoric connection to the "World-Root." You can use this feature once per long rest.
Hive Integration: This item accelerates the Spore Infection Tracking System. While attuned to the symbiote, you are considered to be one Infection Tier higher than your actual level for the purpose of receiving boons (but not for the purpose of drawbacks, unless the symbiote is "hungry").

Lore & Origin

The Azure-Lace is not "crafted" in the traditional sense; it is harvested. It originated within the Viridian Cradle as a specialized sensory organ for the Deep-Root Tenders, designed to allow the hive-mind to experience the "crude, isolated sensations" of the surface world.

The specific specimen sold by Fizig at The Puffball Apothecary is unique. Fizig claims he "lobotomized" this particular lace, using alchemical salts from Steamfort to sever its direct command-link to Grob-Tuk the Ancient. By doing so, he transformed a tool of absolute assimilation into a garment of peerless utility. However, the lace remembers the warmth of the Overmind. It clings to its host with a desperate, covetous grip, seeking to replicate the collective euphoria of the hive through the only thing the host has to offer: their life force.

The Price of Power

The symbiote is a parasite that demands a constant tithe to maintain its "severed" independence.

Blood Tithe: At the end of each long rest, the symbiote drinks from your vitality. You must spend two Hit Dice to feed it. If you have no Hit Dice remaining, you instead take one level of exhaustion that cannot be removed until you feed the symbiote.
Whispers of the Root: Because the symbiote is made of Mycelia-Zul's essence, you have disadvantage on Wisdom saving throws against being charmed or frightened by fungal creatures or agents of the Azure Spore Brotherhood.
The Inevitable Union: If your Spore Infection Tier reaches the maximum level while wearing the Azure-Lace, you do not become a mindless thrall immediately. Instead, your consciousness is uploaded into the symbiote itself. Your body becomes a "vessel" controlled by the garment, and you become an NPC under the DM's control—a perfect, beautiful extension of the World-Root.
