The Deep-Root Tenders

The Deep-Root Tenders

Faction: The Deep-Root Tenders

Alignment & Influence:

  • Alignment: Lawful Evil (Hive-Mind Collective)
  • Influence: Absolute within the goblinoid territories; High within the subterranean leylines; Insidious within the shadows of Kigum and Steamfort.
  • Primary Domain: The Viridian Cradle and the subterranean "Deep-Paths."

Goals & Philosophy

The Deep-Root Tenders serve as the gardeners of a new world order. They believe that individuality is a violent, chaotic illness—a "flesh-rot" that leads to war, industrial waste, and the death of the planet. Their philosophy, The Great Integration, posits that true peace can only be achieved when every heartbeat on the continent pulses in rhythm with Mycelia-Zul.

Their primary goals are:

  1. Expansion of the Mycelial Network: Planting and nurturing spawning pools at strategic geological pressure points.
  2. The Great Harvest: Preparing the "soil" (human and dwarven populations) for assimilation.
  3. The Silencing of Metal: Systematically sabotaging industrial infrastructure—specifically the vents of Steamfort—to ensure the "artificial world" collapses into the "organic one."

Public Face vs. Secret Agenda

The Public Face: To those on the surface or those newly touched by the Blue Fog, the Tenders present themselves as "The Green Peacekeepers." They appear to Lady Elaras court as spiritual emissaries, offering a way to end famine through fungal agriculture and promising a world without pain. They speak in soft, melodic tones about "returning to the mother" and "healing the scars of the dwarves."

The Secret Agenda: The Tenders are cold, calculating architects of ecological conquest. They do not seek "peace" through diplomacy, but through the complete neurological suppression of all non-mycelial life. They are currently terraforming the crust of the earth to collapse beneath Kigum, intending to "plant" the entire city into a massive spawning pool once the Azure Spore Brotherhood has weakened the city’s will from within.

Resources & Assets (What do they control?)

  • The Spawning Pods: The Tenders control the rate of goblin production. They can "flush" the tunnels with Spore-Cougher Swarms at will to repel invaders.
  • The Mycelial Leylines: A network of fungal "cables" that allow for near-instant communication across the continent and enable the Mycelial Stalkers to teleport between infested zones.
  • Psychotropic Domination: Through the concentrated spores they refine, they maintain control over High Forge-Master Thordin, turning Steamfort’s industry into a weapon against its own people.
  • Old Growth Titans: They have the ritual knowledge to awaken dormant Spore-Born Titans, colossal entities capable of leveling fortress walls with a single blow of their bark-plated limbs.

Reputation & Ranks (How do players progress?)

Progression within the Tenders is measured by one’s "depth of connection" to Mycelia-Zul. As a player rises in rank, they physically change, their skin taking on a bluish hue and their thoughts merging with the collective hum of the Cradle.

  1. Spore-Bearer (Rank 1): The "Outsider" tier. Players act as unwitting or low-level agents, spreading "blessings" (infected items) to surface settlements. Benefit: Resistance to fungal toxins; telepathic whispers from the network.
  2. Mycelial Tender (Rank 2): Entrusted with the care of a minor spawning pool. They begin to learn the "Song of the Root." Benefit: Can command Spore-Cougher Swarms; gain advantage on Nature checks involving the subterranean world.
  3. Root-Weaver (Rank 3): High-ranking shamans who direct the growth of the forest. They can manipulate the environment, causing roots to burst from the ground to entangle foes. Benefit: Ability to use "The Silent Path" (limited teleportation through mycelium); access to the "Azure-Lace" symbiote enhancements.
  4. Voice of the Cradle (Rank 4): The elite inner circle. These individuals speak with the direct authority of Grob-Tuk the Ancient. They no longer have a private identity; they are the Hive. Benefit: Full immunity to the Spore Infection drawbacks; the ability to psionically "command" infected NPCs.
