The Pirate Fleet of Crystal Cove
The Crystal Archipelago is home to the most diverse and dangerous collection of maritime power in Aethervale: the Crystal Cove Fleet. Unlike the rigid naval structures of Kigum or the industrial precision of Steamfort, the Pirate Fleet is a chaotic but effective coalition of independent captains bound by the Accord of the Cove.
The Pirate Lords
The fleet is led by the Council of Five, each a Pirate Lord commanding a specific "Squadron" or "Flotilla":
- Lord Valerius "The Gale-Walker": Commands the scouts and swift raiders.
- Lady Elara "The Tide-Witch": Specializes in aether-augmented navigation and mystical interference.
- Baron Kaelen "The Iron-Breaker": Commands the heavy assault ships and former Steamfort defectors.
- Mistress Saffron "The Coin-Counter": Controls the supply lines and the merchant-privateers.
- The Silent Captain: A mysterious figure whose fleet consists of stealthy, black-sailed shadow-vessels.
Vessel Classifications
1. Aether-Skiffs (Scouts)
Small, lightning-fast vessels powered by raw aether crystals. They are designed for speed and maneuverability, often used to bypass Kigum blockades or scout Steamfort movements. They carry minimal weaponry, usually limited to a single aether-harpoon.
2. Crystal Brigs (The Workhorses)
Mid-sized ships with reinforced hulls made from the semi-transparent "Ghost-Wood" found only in the Archipelago. These ships are versatile, capable of both long-range cannon fire and boarding actions.
3. Dread-Galleons (Capital Ships)
Massive floating fortresses, often heavily modified Kigum galleons. They serve as the flagship for the Pirate Lords and are bristling with stolen aether-cannons and experimental Steamfort steam-engines.
4. Shadow-Prowlers
Specialized stealth ships that utilize the refractive properties of the Crystal Mist to become nearly invisible during the day.
The Accord of the Cove
The fleet operates under a strict code:
- The Share: All plunder is divided according to the Captain's rank and the crew's contribution.
- The Sanctuary: No blood may be spilled between member ships within the boundaries of Crystal Cove.
- The Call: In times of external threat (Kigum or Steamfort), all Captains must answer the summons of the Council of Five.
