The Great Owl

The Great Owl (Nocturna)
The Great Owl, also known as Nocturna or The Silent Hunter, is the primary deity of the Muridae (Mousefolk). She is a complex goddess who represents the duality of the night: both the deadly danger that lurks in the darkness and the protective shroud that hides the vulnerable from their enemies. Among the Mousefolk, she is viewed not as a creature of malice, but as a stern, impartial mother who teaches her children the value of silence, vigilance, and the wisdom of the hunt.

Dogma: The followers of the Great Owl believe that survival is the highest form of worship. To move without sound, to strike without warning, and to remain unseen by those who would do you harm are the core tenets of her faith. Her dogma emphasizes the importance of community—one mouse is a meal, but a nest is a fortress. "Listen to the wind, trust the mist, and strike only when the shadows are longest."
Iconography: The Great Owl is depicted as a colossal barn owl with feathers that shimmer like a starless night sky. Her eyes are large, golden orbs that are said to see through any illusion, and her talons are forged from pure moonlight. She is often shown clutching an acorn in one talon (symbolizing the Briar-Kin) and a driftwood branch in the other (symbolizing the Mist-Whiskers).
The Eternal Vigil: The central myth of the Great Owl's faith is "The Eternal Vigil," the belief that she perches atop the tallest tree in the Shrouded Boughs, watching over her children as they sleep. It is said that when a Muridae dies, their spirit is carried by the Great Owl to a hidden forest beyond the stars where the sun never sets and the predators are always at bay.
Rituals: Worship of the Great Owl takes place primarily at night. Muridae offer small tokens of their industry—woven grass, polished shells, or rare seeds—at shrines built into hollowed-out branches or hidden root-grottos. The most important ritual is the "First Flight," a coming-of-age ceremony for Briar-Kin where they must glide across a dark ravine under the light of a full moon.
