Saint Morwen the Compassionate

Saint Morwen the Compassionate, often called the Healer, is the patron saint of medicine, mercy, and agriculture. In the Pantheon of Seven Saints, Morwen is the figure who represents the healing and restorative power of the modern era following the devastation of the Age of Ruin. She is said to have been a human priestess who established the first "Hospitals of Light"—sanctuaries where victims of mana-corruption and demonic plagues could be healed using a combination of divine magic and advanced herbalism. She is credited with the "Bounty of the Solstice," a miracle where she blessed the blighted fields of a starving city, causing them to produce a massive harvest in a single night. She is traditionally depicted as a woman with a gentle expression, holding a bundle of wheat and a basin of glowing, silver water.

The Descent into the Wastes

The most celebrated legend of Saint Morwen is her "Descent into the Wastes." According to the hagiographies, Morwen voluntarily entered the most corrupted heart of the Western Wastes to heal a group of dying children who had been abandoned there. It is said that her presence was so pure that the chaotic energy of the Wastes receded before her, forming a temporary path of sunlight through the mana-storms. While she was unable to permanently cleanse the Wastes, she returned with the children and a new understanding of "Restorative Resonance"—a form of magic specifically designed to counteract Aetheric mutation. She eventually died of old age, her last breath said to have seeded the world with the first of the modern, corruption-resistant grains.

Worship and Legacy

Worship of Saint Morwen is the most pervasive of all the Saints, particularly in the rural settlements and the lower districts of the major cities. Her temples operate as hospitals, alms-houses, and soup kitchens, serving as the primary safety net for the poor and the afflicted. Healers and midwives pray to Morwen for the strength to save lives, while farmers offer her "First-Fruits" to ensure a successful harvest. The Sisters of Mercy, a religious order dedicated to her teachings, travel to the most dangerous and war-torn regions of Aethervale to provide aid to all, regardless of their nationality or affiliation. For the common folk, Morwen is a symbol of hope and the belief that even in a world of steam and magic, compassion remains the most powerful force of all.
