Iron Forging Holidays Steamfort

Iron Forging Holidays Steamfort

The Iron-Forging Holidays (Steamfort)

Date: The Winter Solstice (Final week of the year) Location: Steamfort, The Northern Continent

Overview

While Kigum celebrates light and magic, Steamfort honors the raw power of industry and the heat of the forge. The Iron-Forging is a celebration of the Dwarven victory over the freezing winters of the North through the invention of the first Aether-Engine. It is a time of smoke, fire, and the rhythmic beating of hammers.

Traditions and Events

The Great Whistle

The holiday begins with "The Great Whistle." Every steam engine, airship, and factory in Steamfort releases its pressure valves simultaneously. The resulting sound is a deafening, harmonic blast that echoes across the Northern Wastes, signaling that the "Great Forge" is open.

The Mech-Dueling Tournament

Dwarven engineers and pilots from across the North bring their customized Aether-powered mechs to the "Iron Ring." These duels are a test of both engineering prowess and piloting skill. The winner is awarded the title of "Forge-Master" for the year and a contract with the Ironbeard Syndicate.

The Burning of the Slag

In a symbolic gesture of purification, the city’s accumulated industrial waste—the "Slag"—is ceremoniously dumped into the volcanic vents of the North. This is accompanied by a massive feast where "Forge-Bread" (a dense, coal-fired loaf) and "Liquid Ember" (a spicy, high-proof dwarven ale) are consumed in vast quantities.

Daily Life During the Holiday

The soot-choked streets of Steamfort grow even darker during the Iron-Forging, as every furnace is pushed to its limit. The sound of metal on metal is constant. Families gather around domestic boiler-stoves to share stories of their ancestors’ struggles during the Age of Ruin.

Political Significance

The Iron-Forging is also a time for diplomatic posturing. Steamfort often unveils its latest military hardware—such as new ironclad airships or improved repeating rifles—to intimidate visitors from Kigum and reassure its allies in Dal-Dur.
