Obsidian Ridge

Obsidian Ridge
Obsidian Ridge is a jagged, volcanic spine that cuts across the northern wastes, acting as a natural—and bloody—border between the territories of the Giantfolk and the encroaching dwarven mining expeditions from Steamfort. The ridge is composed of dark, igneous rock and veins of raw obsidian, constantly shrouded in a thick layer of falling ash and the orange glow of distant lava flows.
The Frontline of Fire
The ridge is one of the most active war zones in the Aethervale. The giants, who consider the volcanic peaks sacred ground, have built several "Cinder-Watches"—massive stone outposts that overlook the southern passes. The dwarves, driven by the need for the rare fire-mana crystals found only in the ridge's heart, have countered with "Trench-Forts" and mobile siege engines. The air here is always filled with the sound of distant drums and the rhythmic thud of dwarven artillery.
The Magma-Veins
Beneath the surface of the ridge lies a network of "Magma-Veins"—natural tunnels where liquid stone flows like blood. These tunnels are used by both sides for clandestine movement and sabotage. The heat within the veins is enough to melt standard equipment, requiring the use of specialized heat-resistant alloys and cooling enchantments. It is within these tunnels that the most brutal, close-quarters fighting takes place.
The Soul of the Mountain
Local legends claim that Obsidian Ridge is actually the spine of a sleeping "Primal One," a being of pure earth and fire that existed before the First Brood. Shamanistic giants believe that the constant bloodshed on the ridge is "awakening" the mountain, and that if the conflict is not resolved, the entire ridge will eventually rise up and consume both armies in a tide of fire.
