The Null-Entity

Ecology

The Null-Entity is not a biological organism, nor is it undead or elemental. It is a fundamental glitch in the fabric of the multiverse—a localized sphere of anti-time and anti-magic. It "feeds" by unmaking reality, breaking down kinetic energy, spell effects, and the passage of time itself into a state of absolute zero. It has latched onto the Chronos-Clock in the heart of Aethervale like a parasite, accelerating its entropic consumption. It has no malice, no thoughts, and no goals other than absolute stillness.

Appearance

The Null-Entity has no fixed shape. It appears as a floating, geometric distortion in the air—a shifting hypercube of absolute, flat grayness that seems to lack all texture or shading. It is surrounded by a halo of frozen motion: falling dust hangs suspended in mid-air, and the sound of battle is completely muted within a 30-foot radius. Looking directly at it causes intense vertigo and a feeling of profound emptiness.

Lair Actions (The Time-Locked Vault)

Within the heart of the Chronos-Clock, the Null-Entity manipulates time on initiative count 20:

  • Stasis Field: The Entity chooses a 30-foot cube. Time stops completely within the area. Any creature caught inside is paralyzed and immune to all damage and effects until the next initiative count 20, effectively removing them from the fight for a round.
  • Kinetic Reversal: The Entity rewinds a recent event. It can undo the last successful attack made against it, recovering the hit points lost and forcing the attacker to immediately reroll the attack against themselves.
  • Aura of Sloth: The Entity intensifies its entropic pull. All creatures must make a DC 16 Constitution save or gain one level of Exhaustion that lasts until the end of the encounter.

Combat Mechanics

  • Absolute Nullification: The Entity is entirely immune to magic. Spells cast directly at it, or areas of effect that encompass it, simply cease to exist. It can only be damaged by purely physical, non-magical kinetic force (though magical weapons still deal their base physical damage).
  • Entropic Touch: Its primary attack is a melee spell attack (using its sheer reality-warping presence). A hit deals cold and force damage, and the target's movement speed is permanently reduced by 10 feet until they take a long rest.
  • Silence the Weave: As a reaction to a spell being cast within 60 feet, the Entity can instantly counterspell it without a check.
  • Kinetic Absorption: When struck by a physical melee attack, the Entity absorbs some of the force. The attacker takes force damage equal to half the damage they dealt.

Loot

The Null-Entity cannot be looted in a traditional sense. However, its destruction stabilizes the Chronos-Clock, yielding a Shard of Absolute Time. This legendary artifact allows the bearer to cast Time Stop once per week without expending a spell slot, and makes them immune to the Slow spell and all magical aging effects.
