Eclipse Sun-Spore Seed

Eclipse Sun-Spore Seed

Eclipse Sun-Spore Seed

Legendary, Wondrous Item (Consumable)

Sight, Sound, and Smell

The seed pulses with a rhythmic, golden-blue light that mimics a steady heartbeat. It emits a faint, metallic humming sound, like a distant steam piston muffled by velvet. When held, it smells intensely of ozone, fresh sunflowers, and the sharp, medicinal tang of Blue Bile.

Properties

The Eclipse Sun-Spore Seed is a harmonic stabilizer of immense power. It can be used in two ways:

Ingestion: As an action, a creature can swallow the seed.

  • Purge of the Hivemind: The creature is instantly cured of the "Fungal Bloom" status effect and any other fungal infections or diseases.
  • Radiant Immunity: For the next 24 hours, the creature is immune to necrotic and poison damage, and cannot be charmed or sensed by the Omnisporangium or its subordinates.
  • Aura of the Harmonizer: The creature emits 30 feet of bright light (sunlight) and an additional 30 feet of dim light (twilight). Any Whisper-Hulk or Bile-Mutated creature that starts its turn within the bright light must succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw or be Charmed by the user for 1 minute. While charmed, the creature follows the user's telepathic commands as its sensory perception is overwritten by the seed’s "Solar-Bile" harmony.

Planting: If planted in the Nursery of the Eclipse Bloom or the Omnisporangium’s Heart-Stalk, the seed matures instantly.

  • The Great Stabilization: The seed detonates in a wave of golden-blue spores. All infected creatures within a 1-mile radius are instantly stabilized, halting their mutation. The 17-year "Equilibrium Cycle" is reset or pacified, preventing the Cicadan Swarm from harvesting the surface world.

Ideals & Flaws (Pip the Sun-Spore)

  • Ideal: "The big world is loud and scary, but even a little sprout deserves to see the sun." (Generosity)
  • Flaw: "I’m so hungry... but if I eat the wrong thing, the world might end again." (Gluttony/Fear)

"It tickles... like a thousand tiny suns trying to sneeze inside my belly. I think it wants to go outside and play with the big monsters." — Pip the Sun-Spore

Rumors & Whispers

  • True: The seed is the only object capable of "speaking" to the Omnisporangium in a language it understands—the language of growth rather than consumption.
  • False: Legend says that if you plant the seed in the center of Steamfort, the city will turn into solid gold and the gears will never rust.

Markings

  • The Sun-in-Shadow: Scratched into the walls of the Bile-Ducts of Olsa is a symbol of a sunflower with a weeping eye at its center.
  • Translation: "The light that heals also blinds the Great Eye."

Lore & Origin

The Eclipse Sun-Spore Seed is a biological impossibility, a "divine accident" born within the digestive tract of Pip, a half-goblin scavenger. Pip’s unique physiology—specifically an anomalously low-acid stomach—allowed him to survive the consumption of Aether-enriched sunflower seeds. These seeds reacted with the trace amounts of Blue Bile (a concentrated fungal mutagen) already present in Pip’s system.

The resulting hybridization created a symbiotic flora that bridges the gap between the primal, subterranean hivemind and the radiant energy of the surface world. While the Steam Wrights Consortium views the seed as a power source to be exploited and the Omnisporangium views it as a foreign antibody, to the people of Aethervale, it represents the only hope of stopping the Cicadan Swarm without destroying the planet's ecological balance.

The Price of Power

The seed is a covetous thing; it demands the vitality of its host to maintain its radiance.

  • Metabolic Drain: While the seed is inside a creature (either in the stomach or after ingestion), the creature requires four times the normal amount of food and water.
  • Spore-Vision: After the seed’s effects wear off, the user's vision remains permanently altered. They see the world through a thin veil of drifting, bioluminescent spores. This grants them advantage on Wisdom (Survival) checks to track fungal creatures but imposes disadvantage on saving throws against being blinded by bright light.
