Aether-Tuning Fork

Aether-Tuning Fork

Lore & Origin

A specialized tool used by Muridae wrights to synchronize the magical resonance of equipment with the Mother-Tree.

Aether-Tuning Fork

Wondrous Item, uncommon (requires attunement by a character with proficiency in Smith’s Tools or Woodcarver’s Tools)

The Aether-Tuning Fork is a vital tool for the wrights and alchemists of The Shrouded Boughs. It consists of a long, two-pronged fork made from a single piece of high-purity aether-glass, mounted on a handle of iron-wood. When struck against a hard surface, the fork produces a clear, vibrating note that resonates with the aetheric frequency of the Mother-Tree.

Properties

1. Equipment Tuning

As part of a short rest, you can use the fork to "tune" one non-magical weapon or suit of armor. For the next 8 hours, the item gains a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls (for weapons) or a +1 bonus to AC (for armor). An item can only be tuned once per day.

2. Detect Resonance

As an action, you can strike the fork and listen to the tone. If there is a source of active magic or an aether-leak within 60 feet, the fork's tone will become dissonant and its vibrations will intensify.

3. Silent Communication

If two or more characters are attuned to aether-tuning forks, they can use them to send simple, silent messages to each other across a distance of up to 1 mile by vibrating the forks in specific patterns.

4. Fragile

If the fork is used as a weapon, it has a 50% chance of shattering on a hit, dealing 1d4 piercing damage and becoming inert.
