Master Smith Thrain

Master Smith Thrain
Master Smith Thrain is an ancient dwarf whose life has been inextricably tied to the Great Anvil of Dal-Dur for over three centuries. His skin has taken on the dark, metallic hue of the obsidian he works with, and his hands are as calloused as stone. He is the latest in a long line of Master Smiths, entrusted with the sacred duty of maintaining the city's most powerful artifacts and forging the weapons of the High King's Guard.
Thrain is a man of few words and immense concentration. He speaks only when necessary, his voice sounding like two stones grinding together. He is a perfectionist who believes that a poorly made tool is a sin against the Stone Law. He spends his days and nights at the Great Anvil, his rhythmic hammer-strikes serving as the heartbeat of the citadel.
While he shares a name with the legendary Saint Thrain, the Master Smith treats such comparisons with gruff dismissiveness. To him, the Saint is a distant ideal, while the metal in his hands is the reality he must master. However, many in Dal-Dur believe that the Master Smith is a living conduit for the Saint's power, as the weapons he forges possess a quality and durability that borders on the miraculous.
