Aether-Leech

The Aether-Leech is a parasitic creature commonly found in the nutrient-rich, magically-infused waters of The Shrouded Boughs. These translucent, slimy organisms are typically the size of a mouse's paw and are attracted to high concentrations of Aetheric energy. While they are a nuisance to the Muridae, they are a serious hazard for spellcasters and those carrying aether-powered technology.

Aether-Leeches attach themselves to their hosts using a ring of sharp teeth and a specialized sucker that allows them to bypass many forms of natural armor. Once attached, they not only feed on the host's blood but also "sip" the magical essence from their body or equipment.

Secret Motivation: The leeches are a vital part of the forest's ecosystem, helping to regulate the excess aetheric energy that pulses through the mangrove roots. Without them, the roots would often suffer from "Aether-Bloat," causing them to become brittle and eventually explode.

Adventure Hook: A swarm of Aether-Leeches has infested the main water-tank in Drift-Haven. The town’s population is becoming lethargic and their small magical lanterns are failing. Captain Squeak hires the party to dive into the tank and clear the infestation.
