Scavenger Survival Guide

The Scavenger's Survival Guide
If you're reading this, you've likely just arrived in Fortune's Lake with a pickaxe and a dream of striking it rich. Statistically, you'll be dead or "crystallized" within the week. If you want to beat the odds, follow these rules.
Essential Gear
- Gravity Anchor: A heavy, enchanted lead weight worn at the belt. When the ground starts to float (and it will), this is the only thing keeping you from drifting into the upper atmosphere.
- Aether-Meter: A device that clicks faster as you approach a "Void-Pocket." If it starts screaming, run in the opposite direction.
- Lead-Lined Casks: Corrupted crystals emit "Rad-Magic." If you carry them in your pockets, your skin will start to flake off by sunset. Keep them in the casks.
- Mirror-Glass Goggles: Essential for spotting Phase-Spider webs and seeing through the "Mists of Displacement."
Recognizing the Storms
The Wastes don't have weather; they have "Events."
- The Blue Flicker: If the air starts to smell like ozone and a faint blue light flickers on the horizon, a Wild Magic Storm is incoming. Find a cave or a lead-shielded bunker immediately.
- The Silence: If all sound—including your own footsteps—suddenly stops, you have entered a Time-Dilation Pocket. Moving too fast can cause your body to age fifty years in a second. Move slowly and look for the exit "ripple."
The Seven Sins of the Wastes
- Never Sleep on the Ground: The Mana-Drain Vines move at night. Sleep in a suspended hammock or a fortified camp.
- Don't Drink the Water: Even after boiling, the water in the Wastes contains "Liquid Aether." It will give you the Breath of the Void faster than any crystal.
- Trust the Birds: If you see Aether-Gazers flying away from an area, follow them. They know when a Node is about to rupture.
- Leave the "Ancient" Alone: If you find a building that looks perfectly preserved from the Age of Ruin, it’s a trap. It’s likely a "Memory Echo" that will try to pull you into the past.
- Crystals First, Curiosity Second: You are there to get paid, not to solve the mysteries of the universe. Grab the shard and get out.
- Don't Kill the Weaver: If you see a figure weaving silk in the dark, bow and move on. Those who have tried to attack the Weaver have never been found.
- Watch Your Shadows: If your shadow starts moving independently or pointing in the wrong direction, leave the Wastes. It means the Void has "noticed" you.
Fortune favors the bold, but the Wastes favor the careful.
