The Soundless Village

The Soundless Village

The Soundless Village

Deep in the heart of the Whispering Woods, where the canopy is so thick that it creates a permanent twilight, lies the Soundless Village. Once a thriving settlement of wood-elves and human trappers, it is now a collection of vine-choked ruins where the laws of acoustics have been completely unmade. Within the boundaries of the village, no sound—whether it be a shout, a clap of thunder, or the ring of steel—can travel more than a few inches before being swallowed by the air.

The Silence of the Trees

Scholars believe that the village was the site of a botched ritual intended to "calm" the aggressive spirits of the woods. Instead, the ritual created a "Sonic-Void," a magical anomaly that the surrounding trees have since absorbed and amplified. The wood of these trees, now known as "Hush-Oak," is highly prized by assassins and thieves for its ability to dampen sound, though harvesting it is considered a death sentence by the local druids.

The Ghostly Inhabitants

While the village appears abandoned, it is far from empty. Travelers who have braved the silence report seeing "Echo-Shadows"—translucent figures that mimic the movements of the former villagers. These shadows move with perfect fluidity but make no sound, creating a deeply unsettling, uncanny atmosphere. Some believe these are the souls of the villagers, trapped in a state of sensory deprivation.

Communication Challenges

Exploring the Soundless Village requires specialized preparation. Verbal communication is impossible, forcing teams to rely on complex sign language or telepathic links. The lack of sound also removes one of the most vital sensory cues for danger; a predator can be inches away, and its footsteps will be as silent as the grave. The only "sound" that can be felt is a low, vibrational thrum that resonates in the bones, which some claim is the woods themselves "humming" in satisfaction.
