The Gilded Anvil

The Gilded Anvil

The Gilded Anvil

The Gilded Anvil is a massive, mobile floating fortress that serves as the primary industrial and logistical hub for the Salt Shields mercenary company in the Broad Swells. Originally a deep-sea Aether-mining platform commissioned by the Ironbeard Syndicate of Steamfort, it was "sold" to Captain Groggan and the Salt Shields as part of a complex debt-settlement agreement that many suspect was a cover for a permanent defensive contract. The Anvil is a marvel of dwarven engineering, a sprawling complex of reinforced iron and steam-pressed steel that reeks of coal smoke, oil, and the salt of the ocean. It is designed to be nearly unsinkable, featuring a multi-layered hull and advanced buoyancy tanks that can compensate for even the most severe damage.

The defining feature of the Gilded Anvil is its "Internal Shipyard"—a massive, enclosed dry-dock located within the heart of the fortress. This allows the Salt Shields to repair and refit their heavily armored "Turtle-Ships" even in the middle of a violent mana-storm or during an active naval engagement. The Anvil also houses several high-output foundries and Aether-refineries, allowing it to produce its own ammunition, spare parts, and fuel. Unlike the utilitarian Vane's Vigil, the Gilded Anvil is surprisingly comfortable for its dwarven crew, featuring sprawling mess halls, subterranean-style fungal gardens, and even a fully-functional brewery that produces the company's famous "Anvil-Ale."

Tactically, the Gilded Anvil serves as a mobile "Safe Zone" for merchant convoys traversing the southern trade routes. For a significant fee, a merchant fleet can dock within the Anvil's protective shadow, benefiting from its massive battery of defensive turrets and its powerful Aetheric wards. The fortress is currently stationed near the edge of the Crystal Archipelago, acting as a deterrent against the Sea-Wolves and other pirate factions. While it lacks the speed and offensive power of Vane's Vigil, its sheer durability and industrial capacity make it an indispensable asset for anyone seeking to maintain a stable presence in the lawless waters of the Broad Swells.
