Glimmer-Coins

Glimmer-Coins are uniquely enchanted gold coins produced by the Grand Arcane Bank of Kigum for use during the "Festival of the First Spark." Unlike standard currency, Glimmer-Coins are infused with a subtle, low-level illusion spell that renders them nearly invisible to the naked eye under normal lighting conditions. However, when viewed through a "Detect Magic" spell or a specialized pair of "Aether-Lens" spectacles, the coins emit a soft, pulsing golden glow. This enchantment makes them the perfect centerpiece for the city's annual "Gold Coin Hunt," a massive event where thousands of citizens compete to find the hidden treasures scattered throughout the capital's various districts.

The production of Glimmer-Coins is a highly regulated process, overseen by the Bank's master enchanters to prevent counterfeiting and to ensure the spells remain stable for the duration of the festival. Each coin is stamped with a unique serial number and the seal of the Grand Arcane Spire. While most Glimmer-Coins are traded in for modest cash prizes or commemorative medals, a few rare "High-Glimmer" coins exist. Finding one of these can lead to life-changing rewards, such as a full scholarship to the Kigum Military Academy, a title of minor nobility, or a personal audience with the High Council of Mages. The enchantment is designed to naturally dissipate after the festival ends, causing the coins to lose their "glimmer" and become standard, albeit uniquely stamped, gold currency.

Beyond the festival, Glimmer-Coins have developed a secondary, clandestine use in the underworld of Kigum. Thieves and information brokers of the Gilded Hand often use them as a "silent" currency for high-stakes transactions, as the coins' magical signature can be used to verify their authenticity and track their movement through the city. The Grand Arcane Bank is well aware of this black market use and occasionally utilizes it to monitor the activities of the thieves' guild. For the common folk, however, the Glimmer-Coin remains a symbol of hope and prosperity, a physical reminder of the day the Vanguard of Dawn first ignited the light that saved their world from the darkness of the Age of Ruin.
