Background & Objective

The "No-Delve Zone" of Shaft 42, long sealed by the High King's edict, has become a secret battlefield. A massive pocket of Void-Silver—a rare mineral that dampens all magic—has been discovered. Two rival factions, Stone-Heart Excavations and the Gilded Vein Syndicate, have sent elite teams to claim the prize. The party is hired as "independent contractors" to secure the site and decide the fate of the silver.

Key NPCs & Motivations

  • Haldor "The Hewer" Bronze-Beard: Leader of the Stone-Heart team. A traditionalist who wants to use the silver to forge "Mage-Slayer" armor for the King's guard. He values honor over profit.
  • Sira "Shadow-Step" Vex: A tiefling mercenary for the Gilded Vein Syndicate. She wants to sell the silver to the highest bidder in Steamfort to fund her own escape from the Syndicate's contract.

The Setting: The Silent Deep

  • The Wild Shafts: Unmapped, narrow tunnels filled with toxic gases and unstable rock formations that bypass official checkpoints.
  • The Dead-Zone Pocket: The heart of the silver vein where the air feels heavy and magic is completely extinguished. No spells can be cast here.

  • The Wraith's Lament (Diplomacy/Combat): Negotiating with the Stone-Wraiths to grant safe passage or fighting them off using non-magical means.
  • The Final Choice (Decision): Choosing to help Haldor secure the mine for the King, helping Sira smuggle the silver out, or using "The Breath of the Mountain" to trigger a controlled collapse and bury the silver forever.

Narrative Outcomes & Loot

  • Success (King): The party is hailed as "Friends of the Stone" and granted access to the Royal Armory.
  • Success (Syndicate): A massive gold payout and "black market" contacts in Steamfort.
  • The Buried Secret: Both factions are furious, but the "Dead-Zone" is neutralized, and the Stone-Wraiths find peace.
  • Loot: A Chunk of Raw Void-Silver (can be crafted into Anti-Magic Shackles), Syndicate Steam-Drill (treat as a +1 Warhammer that deals double damage to structures), and Gems of the Deep worth 5,000 gp.
