The Loom Of Fate

The Loom Of Fate

The Secret Vault: The Loom of Fate

Deep beneath the Abyssal Tiers, in a chamber that technically exists in no geography, lies the most guarded secret of the Grand Arcane Bank: The Loom of Fate.

The Loom's Nature

The Loom is a massive, semi-organic machine that resembles a weaving rack made of starlight and bone. It does not weave fabric, but "Aetheric Threads"—the very lines of probability that dictate the future of Aethervale.

Why the Bank Has It

The Grand Arcane Bank doesn't just store wealth; it ensures the stability of wealth. By controlling the Loom, Aurelius the Golden can "nudge" reality to ensure that the Bank's investments remain sound. If a revolution would destabilize a debt-paying kingdom, the Loom is adjusted to ensure the revolution's leaders never meet.

The Guardians: The Sisters of the Needle

The Loom is tended to by three "Norn-Class" constructs. These entities are blind, but they "see" via the vibrations of the threads. They do not fight with weapons; they simply "unravel" the thread of anyone who enters the chamber without authorization, erasing them from history entirely.

The Cost of Operation

Operating the Loom requires "Entropy Fuel"—the sacrificed potential of "What Might Have Been." The Bank acquires this by purchasing the "Unrealized Dreams" of citizens in exchange for physical gold. Most people think it's a poetic metaphor; in reality, their lost potential is bottled and fed into the Loom.

The "End of Days" Protocol

There is a single thread on the Loom that is blacker than the void. This is the "Terminus Thread." If the Bank is ever truly on the verge of falling, the High Exchequers have orders to cut this thread. It is believed that doing so would not just destroy the Bank, but would reset the current Age of Aethervale entirely, returning the world to the "Primal Chaos."
