Aethelgard's Absolute Severance

Aethelgard's Absolute Severance

Aethelgard's Absolute Severance

10th-level abjuration (Epic, Divine)

Casting Time: 1 action Range: Self (1,000-mile radius) Components: V, S, M (A perfectly flawless diamond the size of a human, which the spell consumes) Duration: Permanent

Designed by Saint Aethelgard as a failsafe against the First Brood, this spell does not manipulate the Aether Currents—it violently cauterizes them. You create an absolute, localized vacuum of magic.

An invisible dome with a 1,000-mile radius expands from you, centered on your location. Within this area, the Aether ceases to exist, producing the following effects:

The Dead Zone. The area is considered a permanent Antimagic Field. Spells cannot be cast, summoned creatures disappear, and magic items become mundane. This effect cannot be dispelled by Dispel Magic.

Mechanical Failure. Any device or structure that relies on Aetheric buoyancy or magical propulsion (such as Steamfort's sky-ships or Kigum's floating towers) instantly loses its lift. Structures fall to the ground, and any creature inside takes 20d6 bludgeoning damage per 100 feet of falling.

Biological Shock. Creatures inherently magical by nature (elementals, fey, or constructs) take 20d10 force damage when the field is created. If this reduces them to 0 hit points, they are instantly destroyed.

Draconic Vulnerability. Dragons within the radius lose their Frightful Presence and Breath Weapon traits. They are unable to use legendary actions or lair actions that require magical energy.

The Price. The vacuum must be anchored to a soul. Upon casting, your soul is stretched over the 1,000-mile radius. Your physical body is destroyed, and you cease to exist as a conscious entity, becoming the silent, unthinking barrier that keeps the Aether out. You cannot be resurrected by any means short of a Primordial Unmaking cast by another.
