Thane Hrothgar

Title: Regent of the Stone Throne
Role: Since High King Durnar’s transition into a living statue, Hrothgar has served as the day-to-day ruler of Dal-Dur. He is a dwarf of immense age and wisdom, with a beard that reaches the floor and is weighted with golden rings representing the various clans he has unified. He is a staunch traditionalist, often clashing with the more progressive elements of the Ironbeard Syndicate in Steamfort.

Secret Motivation: Hrothgar is one of the few who knows that the "crystallization disease" that claimed Durnar was actually a draconic curse, not a result of Aether exposure. He has been secretly communicating with a group of elven mystics in Lemmion, trying to find a cure. He fears that the curse is spreading to the city’s water supply and that the entire population of Dal-Dur could be turned to stone within a generation.

Adventure Hook: Hrothgar hires the party to "quietly" escort a shipment of "sacred stones" (actually samples of Durnar’s petrified flesh) to the Elven Enclaves for study. He warns them that "agents of the shadow" (Obsidian Scale) will do anything to stop the shipment.
