The First-Born Protocol

The true origins of the Giantfolk are shrouded in myth and time, but ancient, fragmentary texts discovered in the deepest ruins hint at a startling truth: the giants were not a naturally evolved race, but engineered beings. This revelation is often referred to by scholars as "The First-Born Protocol."

The Biological Caretakers

According to these fragmented records, before the era of gods and modern mortals, the world was shaped by an enigmatic, primordial creator race known only as the First Brood. The First Brood sought to cultivate and terraform the raw, chaotic world. To this end, they created the Giantfolk—massive, resilient biological machines designed to move mountains, carve riverbeds, and tend to the primordial forests.

The Decommissioning

For millennia, the giants served their purpose, shaping the continents according to the First Brood's designs. However, as the world stabilized and the First Brood's era drew to a close, the giants' immense power became a liability. The First Brood initiated a "decommissioning"—a catastrophic event intended to neutralize their creations.

Survival and Forgetting

The decommissioning was not entirely successful. A fraction of the giant population survived, scattered across the harshest environments of the world. Over countless generations, the memory of their true purpose faded into myth and religion. The giants forgot they were tools and began to see themselves as masters of the realms they had once been built to maintain. The different subraces (Fire, Frost, Stone) are believed to be specialized models that adapted to their respective environments after the fall of their creators.
