Leviathans of the Eternal Slumber

To the surface world, leviathans are monsters of myth, sea serpents that swallow ships whole. To the Argentari of the Sunken Empire, they are something much more: they are the Living Foundations of their civilization.

The Slumbering Gods

The Argentari do not worship abstract deities. Instead, they serve the Tidal Ancients—gigantic, bio-organic entities that have existed since before the First Brood. These leviathans are so massive that entire cities are built upon their backs or within their cavernous ribcages.

Known Leviathans:

1. Ouroboros-Mar (The World-Ender): A serpent of such immense length that its tail is said to be anchored in the Northern Wastes while its head rests in the Southern Abyss. Its slow, rhythmic breathing creates the world's tides.
2. Kha'Zul the Crushing One: A behemoth resembling a prehistoric nautilus. Its shell is the foundation for the Argentari capital, Argentum-Prime. Kha'Zul consumes raw Aether from the ocean floor and vents it as purified Hydro-Aether.
3. The Silent Matriarch: A jellyfish-like entity whose tentacles span hundreds of miles, acting as a living telepathic network for the Sunken Empire.

The Silent Faith

The religion of the Argentari is one of Symbiosis and Stillness. They believe that the leviathans are "dreaming" the current state of the world. If the leviathans were to fully awaken, the continents would crumble, and the world would return to the Age of Tides.

• The Dream-Callers: A caste of Argentari priests who use Hydro-Aetheric resonance to "sing" to the leviathans, keeping them in a state of eternal, peaceful slumber.
• The Tithe of Essence: The Argentari offer small amounts of their own Aether-rich blood to the leviathans during lunar eclipses, strengthening the bond between the people and their living gods.

The Prophecy of the Great Awakening

A splinter group known as The Void-Gazers (not to be confused with the surface cult of the same name) believes that the First Brood "drugged" the leviathans to force them into sleep, allowing the dragons to rule. They seek to disrupt the "songs" of the Dream-Callers and awaken Ouroboros-Mar, an act that would trigger a global cataclysm known as The Final Tide.

Tactical Note for Adventurers:

Deep-sea expeditions often report hearing "The Hum"—a low-frequency vibration that causes nausea and hallucinations. This is the collective psychic resonance of the slumbering leviathans, a warning to all who dare intrude upon their eternal rest.
