Durgrims Transformation

Durgrims Transformation
Overview
In the smog-choked, industrial heart of Steamfort, a quiet and disturbing evolution is taking place. Forge-Lord Durgrim, the brilliant and once-beloved leader of the Gear Grinders and chief engineer of the city, is slowly becoming something else. Afflicted by the incurable "Iron Lung"—a degenerative respiratory disease caused by decades of inhaling toxic forge-fumes—Durgrim has turned to radical, forbidden techno-arcana to survive.
The Mechanization Process
Durgrim's initial modifications were crude but necessary: a mechanical respirator grafted to his chest. But as the disease progressed, so did his reliance on machinery. He began replacing failing organs with intricate clockwork analogues powered by miniaturized Aether-cores. His right arm, weakened by tremors, was replaced with a piston-driven prosthetic of unyielding dwarven steel.
The mystery lies not just in the technology, which surpasses anything previously seen in Steamfort, but in the source of its design. Rumors suggest Durgrim discovered an ancient, pre-Ruin schematic for a "perfected" form, or perhaps he is hearing whispers from a dark entity dwelling within the city's deepest, forgotten forges.
The Loss of Empathy
The most terrifying aspect of Durgrims Transformation is psychological. As more of his flesh is replaced by cold metal, his renowned empathy and fiery dwarven spirit are fading. He has become coldly logical, ruthlessly efficient, and increasingly detached from the suffering of the lower-class workers in Steamfort.
He implements draconian production quotas and suppresses labor strikes with brutal, mechanized enforcers he designed himself. The people of Steamfort whisper in fear: is Durgrim building a new, immortal body to better lead them, or is the machine slowly overwriting the man, preparing to turn Steamfort into a soulless, automated nightmare? The race is on to uncover the true nature of his blueprints before the last scrap of the Forge-Lord's humanity is extinguished.
