A vibrant, iridescent pigment extracted from the carapaces of Shimmer-Beetles.

Lore & Origin

Shimmer-Dye is a highly prized and versatile pigment produced by the craftsmen of The Crown City of Ardor. It is created by grinding the naturally iridescent wing-cases of Shimmer-Beetles into a fine powder and then mixing it with a base of purified aether-sap. The resulting dye is incredibly vibrant and possesses a slight bioluminescence.

Properties

1. Iridescent Color: Any object treated with shimmer-dye will shift in color between brilliant pinks, blues, and golds as it moves. The effect is permanent and cannot be washed out by water or salt-spray.

2. Low-Light Visibility: Objects treated with shimmer-dye emit a very faint glow (5-foot radius of dim light) in total darkness. This makes the dye popular for marking trails, identifying friendly ships at night, or for use in mystical robes.

3. Aetheric Marking: The dye has a specific aetheric signature. A character with proficiency in Arcana or who can cast Detect Magic can identify a specific "Batch" of shimmer-dye from up to 60 feet away.

4. Crafting Use: One vial of shimmer-dye is enough to treat one Small suit of armor, one set of clothes, or a 10-foot square of sailcloth.
