The Swells’ Breach in Dal-Dur
Background & Objective
A catastrophic failure in the Southern Wards has opened a massive rift in the Crystal Wall, the primary defense of Dal-Dur. Toxic, violet Aether-Mist from the Broad Swells is pouring into the lower mining districts, bringing with it the "Mist-Stalkers"—warped predators from the lower atmosphere. The party must evacuate the trapped miners, survive the corrupting mist, and manually reset the Southernmost Anchor-Stone to seal the breach.
Key NPCs & Motivations
- Captain Korgra Iron-Eye: A grim, one-eyed veteran of the Shield-Bearers. She is desperately holding the main gate of the district and needs the party to reach the Anchor-Stone.
- The Swells-Titan: A gargantuan, translucent aberration that has lodged itself in the rift, preventing it from being sealed and acting as a conduit for more mist.
The Setting: The Lower Holds
- The Ring of Silence: A tunnel system normally used for meditation, now a frantic evacuation route filled with terrified miners and encroaching violet mist.
- The Crystal Wall Rift: A jagged, 100-foot gap in the city’s magical defenses, pulsing with unstable energy and crawling with Mist-Stalkers.
- The Anchor-Stone Platform: A high-altitude ledge where the city’s gravity and air-pressure are maintained, now surrounded by a high-density "Aether-Fever" cloud.
Encounters & Branching Paths
- The Tunnel Evacuation (Challenge): Protecting a group of miners from a pack of Mist-Stalkers while the tunnels suffer from localized tremors and collapses.
- The Anchor-Stone Reset (Skill Challenge): Performing a series of manual overrides on the Anchor-Stone while suffering from "Aether-Fever" (hallucinations and exhaustion).
- The Saboteur’s Secret (Investigation): Discovering that the "Star-Heart" focusing crystal is missing, pointing to a traitor within the Shield-Bearers who wants the city to fall.
- The Titan’s Removal (Combat): A climactic battle against the Swells-Titan to dislodge it from the rift, allowing the Master-Smiths to apply temporary "Stone-Seals."
Narrative Outcomes & Loot
- Success: The breach is sealed. The party is titled "Ward-Walkers of Dal-Dur" and granted a seat at the High King’s court and a personal "Stone-Debt" from House Deepdelve.
- Failure: The Lower Holds are abandoned and flooded with mist. Dal-Dur loses its primary source of income, and the city begins a slow, agonizing decline.
- Loot: Sliver of the Crystal Wall (focus for defensive magic), Shield-Bearer’s Plate, and Stone-Seal of Dal-Dur.
