Root-Spider

Root-Spider
The Root-Spider is a giant arachnid that spins its webs within the dark and humid labyrinth of the Mother-Tree's roots. These spiders are nearly five feet in diameter and possess a mottled grey and brown coloration that allows them to blend perfectly with the wet wood. They are patient hunters, waiting for hours in complete silence for a fish or a Mist-Whisker scavenger to stumble into their sticky traps.
Root-Spiders are the primary source of the "Mist-Silk" used by the Muridae to create their shimmering cloaks and durable sails. Specialized hunters from the Mist-Weaver Coven are the only ones allowed to harvest the silk, a process that requires both physical agility and a deep understanding of the spider's behavior.
Secret Motivation: The spiders are naturally territorial and will often defend their web-clusters with surprising ferocity. They are particularly aggressive during the "Fog-Bloom," when the high concentration of aetheric spores makes them more active and territorial.
Adventure Hook: A massive nest of Root-Spiders has blocked the main channel leading to the Echoing Grotto. Seer Morwen needs a team to clear the webs and drive the spiders away without killing them, as the silk they produce is essential for a coming ritual.
