The Flying Griffin Tavern

The Flying Griffin
Type: Tavern / Transportation Hub Location: A floating platform 200ft above the streets of Kigum.
The Flying Griffin is a unique and thrilling tavern situated on a massive, magically-levitated platform that hovers high above the Merchant's Wharf in Kigum. It serves as the primary hub for the city's griffin-based transport and logistics network. The platform is accessible only via griffin-back or specialized magical lifts, and its open-air design offers a breathtaking (and vertigo-inducing) view of the city and the Boundary Ocean. The air here is always windy and smells of feathers, hay, and the ozone of the platform's levitation engines.
The tavern is owned by House Thalric and managed by "Sky-Captain" Rylan, a former military griffin rider who lost his leg in a skirmish with Steamfort airships. The signature drink is High-Altitude Mead, a potent brew that is said to give the drinker a temporary sense of weightlessness and euphoria. The Flying Griffin is a loud, bustling place filled with griffin handlers, merchants, and adventurers preparing for long-distance travel. It is also the site of frequent, informal "Sky-Races" between the city's most daring riders.
Plot Hooks:
- The Platform Drift: The platform's levitation engines are malfunctioning, causing it to slowly drift toward the High Spire's restricted airspace. The party must repair the engines before the City Watch shoots the platform down.
- The Stolen Griffin: A prized breeding griffin has been stolen from the tavern's stables. Rylan hires the party to track the thief through the city's upper levels and recover the animal.
- The Sky-Race Challenge: A visiting noble challenges one of the party members to a race around the city's spires. The stakes are high, and the noble's agents are prepared to cheat to ensure his victory.
