The Academy District Kigum

The Academy District (Kigum)
Type: City District / Educational Center Location: Central Kigum, surrounding the Great Library.
The Academy District, often called the "Blue Quarter" due to the traditional color of student robes, is the intellectual and vibrant hub of Kigum. It is a dense maze of libraries, lecture halls, laboratory spires, and bustling student housing. This district is home to the Kigum Military Academy, the Great Library, and dozens of smaller, specialized schools of magic and philosophy. The air here is perpetually filled with the sound of chanting, the clashing of practice swords, and the occasional minor explosion from a failed alchemical experiment.
The district's population is a diverse mix of ambitious students, weary professors, and eccentric researchers from all over Aethervale. It is a place where new ideas are constantly being born and tested, often with little regard for the safety or traditionalism of the other districts. The "Star-Gazer Observatory," located at the highest point of the district, is the world's premier center for celestial study and Aether-current mapping. Despite its academic focus, the district is also a hotbed of revolutionary sentiment and "Gear Grinder" activity, as many students question the control the Grand Arcane Bank exerts over their futures.
Plot Hooks:
- The Rogue Experiment: An apprentice's "unlimited Aether-source" experiment has gone horribly wrong, creating a localized gravity-well that is slowly swallowing a lecture hall. The party must shut it down before it destabilizes the entire district.
- The Library Thief: A series of rare, restricted scrolls have been stolen from the Great Library's forbidden section. The head librarian hires the party to track down the thief, who is using a high-level "Invisibility" spell.
- The Student Protest: A massive protest against the Aether-tax has turned into a riot, and the city guards are moving in to suppress it. The party must find a way to de-escalate the situation before innocent students are hurt.
