Floaty Boat

Floaty Boat

Transmutation cantrip

Casting Time: 1 action Range: Touch Components: V, S, M (a small copper gear or a pinch of powdered cork) Duration: Concentration, up to 10 minutes

The air around the vessel's hull begins to hiss with a rhythmic, pneumatic pressure as a shimmering field of copper-hued light weaves through the wood or metal. This spell is a humble but noble charm, favored by the smog-stained dock-smiths and ancient mariners who navigate the dangerous, gear-driven currents of the modern age.

You touch a boat or ship no longer than 60 feet. For the duration, the vessel becomes supernaturally buoyant. If the vessel is taking on water or has a breached hull, it ceases to sink and remains level with the water’s surface, held aloft by a mythic, invisible cushion of pressurized magic.

While the spell is active, the vessel cannot sink further into the depths, but it gains no propulsion, and any damage to the hull remains. This magic is a fragile grace; it provides just enough buoyancy to allow for frantic repairs or a slow tow to a shimmering harbor. If the vessel is larger than 60 feet or is carrying a load that exceeds its maximum capacity by more than double, the copper light flickers and the spell fails.

At the end of the duration, the rhythmic hissing fades, the gears of the spell cease their shimmering rotation, and the vessel's natural weight returns to the sea.
