Gideon the False

Gideon the False
Title: "The Grand Magus of the East"
Role: Gideon is a charismatic con artist who uses elaborate stage magic and mechanical gadgets to convince people he is a powerful wizard. He has built a significant following among the common folk of Kigum, who are tired of the Spire’s arrogance and high prices for basic magical services.
Secret Motivation: Gideon’s "stage magic" is actually powered by stolen "Void-Shards" that he bought from Fortune's Lake scavengers. He doesn't understand the danger they pose and is inadvertently tearing holes in reality every time he performs. He is also being blackmailed by the Obsidian Scale, who want him to use his "shows" to spread their propaganda and identify potential recruits.
Adventure Hook: One of Gideon’s shows goes catastrophically wrong, and a "Void-Rift" opens in the middle of a crowded square. The party must close the rift and then decide whether to turn Gideon in or help him escape the cult’s clutches.
