The Geyser Fields

The Geyser Fields
The Geyser Fields are a sprawling, steam-choked landscape located along the jagged northern edge of the Boiling Coast. Here, the earth's crust is thin, and the proximity to the volcanic heart of the Northern Continent creates a constant, violent display of geothermal power. Hundreds of geysers, ranging from tiny sputtering vents to massive pillars of scalding water that reach hundreds of feet into the air, dot the rocky terrain.
The Steam-Catchers
While the Geyser Fields are inherently hostile to most life, they have become a primary industrial zone for the local kobold tribes. Using a network of brass pipes and "Steam-Catcher" funnels, the kobolds harness the pressurized vapor to power their crude but effective machinery. The fields are a maze of hissing pipes and clanking pressure-valves, all maintained by specialized "Vapor-Menders" who wear thick, protective leather suits.
The Mineral Pools
Between the erupting geysers lie stagnant pools of mineral-rich water. These pools are often brightly colored—vivid oranges, deep blues, and toxic greens—due to the high concentration of sulfur and other volcanic chemicals. The kobolds use these pools for "Alchemy-Soaking," a process where they bathe their weapons and armor in the mineral-rich waters to harden the metal and give it a corrosive edge.
Defensive Hazards
The fields serve as a natural defense for the kobold settlements hidden within the nearby cliffs. The ground is unstable, and a single misstep can lead to a "Flash-Boil" event, where a new geyser erupts directly beneath an intruder. Furthermore, the thick steam provides perfect cover for kobold "Mist-Stalkers," who use the terrain to launch ambushes on anyone foolish enough to traverse the fields without a guide.
