Steam-Tipped Harpoon

Steam-Tipped Harpoon
The Steam-Tipped Harpoon is a terrifying marvel of giant engineering, combining brutal kinetic force with lethal thermal technology. These massive javelins, often measuring over ten feet in length, are primarily used by elite giant hunters and shock troops to take down large beasts or heavily armored foes.
Construction and Design
The shaft of the harpoon is forged from blackened steel or reinforced ironwood, capable of withstanding immense pressure. The weapon's core features a pressurized internal chamber filled with water, connected to a complex arcane heating mechanism in the hilt. The head of the harpoon is heavily barbed and hollow, with small, reinforced vents running along the blades.
The Mechanism of Destruction
When the harpoon strikes a target with sufficient force, the impact triggers a mechanical rune in the shaft. This instantly superheats the water in the internal chamber, converting it into high-pressure steam. The steam is then violently injected through the hollow head directly into the target's wound.
Effects in Combat
The results are catastrophic. Beyond the initial piercing damage of a massive projectile, the sudden injection of superheated steam causes massive internal scalding and tissue damage. The thermal shock can boil the blood of smaller creatures and severely cripple even the hardiest of monsters, making it an ideal weapon for bringing down leviathans or breaching fortified defenses.
